Peter Kouwenhoven, Associate

Dr. Peter Kouwenhoven started his career almost twenty years ago with Resource Analysis in Delft the Netherlands, an international consultant bridging the gap between science and policy. He worked on planning issues in the Netherlands and many other countries. An integrative approach usually included environmental change and often climate change. Peter brings a wide ranging expertise and experience. He worked on models on every scale (from microscopic organisms, to global), many topics (ecology, hydrology, sedimentation, pollution, eutrophication, airtraffic, economy), applications (risk assessment, adaptation options, planning) and timescales (current, through mid-term and long term). He developed modelling tools (STEM for differential equations and RAP for qualitative modelling) and applied these with various stakeholder groups (local communities, experts, decision makers). Internationally he is involved in the GEO (Global Environmental Outlook) from UNEP as well as CAN (Collaborative Adaptation Network). He worked in New Zealand, The Netherlands, Brazil, Nigeria, Canada, Germany, India, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, Greece, Spain, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belgium, Denmark, Fiji, The Cook Islands, Samoa, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Thailand, Kenya, Egypt and Uruguay. He is currently working on new climate impact models (including an implementation of the rational method and impacts on coral reefs) as well as on carbon exchange issues.

Peter has a PhD in Environmental Management from the Technical Environmental Management Group in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Twente in Enschede the Netherlands. He holds Masters and Bachelor degrees in Biology from the University of Leiden, the Netherlands.
