🌊 COP 29 Update: Protecting Wallis & Futuna — Climate Risk in the Pacific 🌏
Wallis and Futuna, like the rest of our Pacific neighbours, are on the frontline of the climate crisis. Through a collaborative project with MetService – Te Ratonga Tirorangi and the Embassy of France in New Zealand – Ambassade de France en Nouvelle-Zélande, aux Îles Cook et aux Samoa, we’ve produced a series of five newsletters detailing the critical climate risks facing this region and outlining adaptation strategies.
These newsletters reveal Wallis and Futuna’s heightened vulnerability as rising sea levels and extreme weather increasingly threaten its ecosystems and communities. Our findings applied the latest CMIP6 climate hazard projections and marine and atmospheric variables analyses to highlight blue carbon activities as a vital climate mitigation strategy. As COP29 shines a spotlight on the Pacific, we are proud to champion sustainable, nature-based solutions like blue carbon to protect the region’s biodiversity and build resilience.
Check out the newsletter pack here to explore these findings further and discover how ClimSystems’ climate technology and scientific expertise contribute to resilience in Wallis and Futuna and the wider Pacific.
