ClimSystems Senior Climate Scientist appointed to CMIP-7 Data Access team
We are delighted to announce the appointment of our very own Dr Yinpeng Li to the CMIP-7 Data Access team.
Content
Yinpeng is a Senior Climate Scientist at CLIMsystems and a member of the not-for-profit International Global Change Institute (IGCI).
The Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP) is a remarkable international effort to improve our understanding of climate change. Select research institutions collaborate to develop and run models that simulate the Earth’s climate system. CMIP scientists compare the results of different models and assess their strengths and weaknesses using standardised protocols and scientific rigour of the highest order.
New phases and versions of the protocol are released periodically by CMIP, the current version being CMIP6, which was used for the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report. Here at CLIMsystems, we’ve been applying CMIP6 data since 2021.
Dr Li and the CMIP7 data access team will be working to streamline the processes for supplying CMIP-compatible data and facilitate community tool development, among other objectives. The results will be provided to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for its 7th Assessment Report.
We are very proud of Yinpeng’s past and continuing contributions to the field of climate change.
